A rant: Numbers. Are. Ebil.


Numbers haunted a lot of people like me; a lot of students are weak when it comes to numbers. My professor at algebra once told me about his college days. "Maka tres lang kam sa finals, masayang masaya na!" And this mentality still proves to be true up to this day. I never knew why numbers are so harsh to me. So harsh that it made me conclude on a vengeful thought: Numbers. Are. Evil.

Yes, dear friends. Numbers, to me, are evil. Same goes to those who went to summer class because of it. Our lives are governed by numbers. Look around you. Your telephone bill, water bill, electricity bill, cable television bill, and any other bills you can think of. They are ALL riddled with numbers! The government itself lays its own foundations on numbers stamped on bills. No, not electricity bills and such. But the bill we all termed as "the root of all evil." Yes, that would be money.

Since time is the almighty, omnipotent being, let’s look at numbers from its own point of view: history. From the time of cavemen and woolly mammoths, words where nothing more but grunts and snarls, and numbers are virtually non existent. They did not need to count at all. All they did (according to our archeologists) was hunt, eat, and such: they strived to survive with the simplicity of life. The only weapon of theirs unearthed where those which where used to hunt for their food. Now, as the centuries progress, people become more and more creative; aided with numbers, they become better at crafting items of their own demise: weapons such as clubs, swords, long bows, cross bows, muskets, hand guns, cannons, machine guns, bombs, missiles, and weapons of mass destruction (chronological order). All of which where, and still are, purchased with money: the root of all evil.

But what can a single man (me) do against numbers? I guess all I could do is live with it. I guess one should accept something for what it is. Both pros and cons. Maybe I should love numbers… Hmm, yes I would…. Until the day someone finds a way to get back at it.
